In the words of
her
fosters...
Sweet, funny, devoted, gentle natured, always aiming to please, a
bit insecure and a bit of a clown are all terms to describe this
gal, rescued from a puppy mill where she had spent so much of her
life obviously having litter after litter. Chilli took to life as
an inside pet amazingly quick for a dog from her sad circumstances.
She picked up the doggie door the first evening by following out the
resident hounds in her foster home and has not had one accident
since the day she arrived! She has a super sweet personality,
although she MUST be the one closest to you at all times--usually in
your lap or right next to you wherever you are seated. Standing
up? Yup, she's right by your side. Chilli does terrific with cats,
gets along great with other dogs, and would strongly benefit from
having another to play with--she has a lot of energy for a gal her a
age and does a mean basset 500! Her fosters are trying to teach her
to play with toys, but all she does is take them out of wherever
they are, and put them in her crate. She also puts stuff she
"steals" in there as well (plastic containers, door stops, pens are
a few things buried in there). Chilli is a serious counter cruiser,
but she is not destructive (although a good empty towel paper tube
is a great thing to shred!!). Chilli has become beautifully crate
trained---puts herself in her crate when she wants a nap or nibbles
a chewie, and sleeps in there at night with the door open and really
needs a crate where she'll live as her security blanket. She also
eats in her crate because one problem Chilli has is a food
issue--she gobbles her meal like she'll never get another, and then
tries to gobble everyone else's, which can cause problems for most
other dogs who prefer not to share their breakfast and dinner. But
all her fosters have to do is hold up her bowl, say "Chilli, kennel
up" and she goes running to her crate in happy anticipation and once
done eating, sits quietly until she is let out (the only time the
door is closed). Chilli has a gentle nature that would be great
with kids, but she does snap hard for treats so little fingers could
be hurt. Slowly she's learning to sit and wait her turn for a
cookie but needs work. And this truly beautiful girl with the most
sad eyes that can turn you to mush (when she wants something) is a
very obedient girl who comes when you call her and knows the word
"no". If you would like more info, feel free to contact her
fosters.
