If you like what you see, fill out an online Adoption Application

Special Adoption Note:  If you are in another state other than Alabama, please contact your local Basset Hound Rescue first.  We are happy to adopt to people all over the country, but so often people contact us to adopt, we perform a home visit and then they end up adopting from their own state's rescue organization.  The adoption process uses up a lot of our resources, and we prefer to use them on people who actually plan to adopt from Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama. Our Adoption Coordinator would be happy to discuss this process more with you when you call her.

Shortly after your application is received, our Home Visit Coordinator will contact you.
A volunteer will make an appointment to come visit your home and talk to you about adoption.

If approved, the Adoptions Coordinator will contact you
and talk to you about your preferences and the dogs available,
and will try to help you make the choice that’s right for you.

You will then print out an Adoption Agreement,
fill it out and sign it, and mail with your check
with your tax deducible adoption fee made out to BHRA to:

Be sure to email Trudy Phillips and let her know which dog you are adopting!

(Note:  All fees and the Adoption Agreement must be received prior to the date the dog travels.)

After your Adoption Agreement and fee are received, make arrangements to get your dog.
The Adoptions Coordinator will advise you of your options here….
Either to pick it up directly from the foster family, or to meet another volunteer.
If you live a long distance away, arrangements can be made for the dog's travel.
This will also be something you can discuss with the Adoption Coordinator.

Expect to receive your dog’s medical records in the mail, in a week or so.
If for any reason you don’t receive them, contact the Adoptions Coordinator or the Medical Records Coordinator.

Expect to be contacted by our Follow-up Coordinator after about four weeks.
She will be checking with you to see how things are going and get an update on your new family member.
