Daisy is gone now.  She went in to liver failure and had compromised breathing due extremely swollen lymph nodes in her neck.  The prednisone did not help and she was up to 60 mg per day.  Our vet came to our home yesterday and put her to sleep; it was (and is) so sad.

I thought you might want to know that Daisy (AKA Celine) has been given 3-6 months.  She has both mammary and lymphoma cancer that is inoperable / untreatable.  We can take her to UT Veterinary for chemotherapy but we believe that would be cruel and unusual torture to make her weak, sickly, vomit, lose hair all to “possibly” extend her life another 6 months.   The vet has put her on prednisone which will help shrink the swollen lymph nodes.  If you would like more information, you are welcome to contact Dr. Clark at Cedar Bluff Animal Hospital (865) 693-8212.  Her records are listed under Daisy Duff.

We will make sure that she lives out her remaining days happy and comfortable.  Once her quality of life diminishes to the point where she won’t eat or walk or she is noticeably in pain, we will put her to rest.  This has been just heartbreaking for us after the heartworm ordeal.  I appreciate and respect you and this organization for saving many lives and finding loving homes for otherwise unwanted and abused animals.  I have one request and that is for you to reevaluate the veterinary staff that you use and ensure that they are not cutting corners as this case would suggest and to provide complete and accurate records to your adoptive families.

Daisy has the sweetest and most loving personality of any dog I have ever known.  She is so gentle; she loves people and even loves cats.  She loves to sun herself on the deck and loves to nap.  She hates going out in the rain and doesn’t like getting her feet wet.  She adores cookies and will give you a goofy, crooked smile when she’s getting one.  We have found out that her large, solid structure, big feet, sloped head and low-slung ears would suggest that she is an Appalachian Big Foot Basset Hound.
