Hello...

We adopted Louie (formerly J.T.) back in February. He’d just completed heartworm treatment and was a little gaunt and underweight. The battle scars from his homeless days kind of stood out on his boney frame. Not that he wasn’t a handsome guy – he was! He stole my wife’s heart right away. We took Louie and his companion, Sophie (our other rescue basset), to play on the beach at lake Arkabutla last weekend and we couldn’t help but notice how great he looks in the (attached) pictures. He’s gained about 8 pounds since joining us, he’s bright-eyed and full of energy. He and Sophie have become inseparable.

We got Abbey about six years ago and she is
everything we ever wanted in a dog! She makes us
laugh, she can howl with her Daddy in his lap to
the tune of " Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "The
Sun'll Come up tomorrow" or any other show
tune!!! It is the funniest thing you have ever
seen. We REALLY think she thinks she is singing
right along with the songs!
She is the neighborhood favorite when we take her on walks around our subdivision. The other dogs that see her behind their fences all bark at her but she strides down the walkway like she is the Queen Mother herself! Obviously any child or adult that sees her immediately smiles since she is wagging her tail furiously and then she immediately rolls over for her mandatory bellyrub from said new friend!
I truly don't know what we would have done without Abbey these last few years. She has helped our family get through a very painful time after our loving 13 year old daughter passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm.
It was Abbey who took over loving us, supporting us with her nose nuzzles, her doleful eyes like she was sad too, and always just wanting to be rubbed and patted and BELLYRUBS! She has been our angel dog and we are forever grateful!
Thanks BHRA for givng us the dog of our dreams!
Sincerely,
The Winsteads

Hi all,
Well Elleigh has been here with us since the end of May. She's recovered from her long cross country flight and is becoming QUITE the California girl! She loves to kick back in the sun with her shades on and knock back a cold one!
Thanks for a great hound!

Here is little sweet Martina, adopted by Kelly
Cothran. Martina had to have one of her
eyes removed, but she is doing GREAT!
Kelly says that Martina has found some creative
ways to keep her bones safe until she is ready
for them! Her foster mom says she's been
through a lot, but she thinks it just makes her
that much sweeter and appreciative of her new
home. She is the best companion ever! Her mommy
adores her and says she flatters herself to
think Martina shares her sentiment. I'm sure
she does though, she's Kelly's shadow wherever
she goes. It's hard for Kelly to imagine what
life was like without Martina! Please
enjoy these photos of sweet Martina before and
after her surgery!

My husband and I had a shelter rescue female basset hound, she was
wonderful but she wanted a friend. I searched on the internet for
another basset and we found our Bogie. My husband drove from Texas
to Magee, Mississippi to meet with the people that brought Bogie
from Alabama. When we got him he was so skinny but I am happy to
report he weighs 65 pounds. When our female basset saw him it's
like they had been together all their lives. He has brought us so
much joy. I can't thank BHRA enough.
