Hi!
We just wanted to update everyone who was involved with the care of Andi on how she is doing!
We adopted Andi, a slightly older hound, in September 2005 and she has done great ever since. Andi is the Queen of our home and took over the disciplining of our younger male, Apache. They get along wonderfully and have a ton of fun together. Andi is still the world's reigning champion at counter cruising and sofa/recliner lounging. If there is food to be found, Andi will find it and if there is an unoccupied chair that needs warming, Andi will sit in it! Andi still believes that she will be a long distance walker someday and gets VERY excited when the leash comes out. However, five or ten minutes into a walk she has her doubts and requires a little extra encouragement to keep walking. She has a new baby human in her life and tolerates him as a minor annoyance that doesn't deserve too much attention. The energy required to keep up with a one-year-old human is better left to her younger brother- Andi prefers to watch, that is if she isn't sleeping.
Thank you to everyone who nursed our Andi back
to health and gave her the chance to have a new
start. She fits our family perfectly-flaws and
everything- and is a blessing to us everyday.
We encourage everyone who is looking to adopt a
rescue hound to do so with enthusium and
confidence that they are making a difference to
a loving hound in need!
Thanks to all! Jessica, Jeremy and Jacob Brown (Andi
and Apache, too!)

We adopted Baxter (formerly Caesar, formerly
Clyde) Clyde Skelley from BHRA on Oct. 1, 2005.
He has added such joy to our lives. Baxter is
just the best dog. He sleeps, oh, about 23 hours
of the day, and uses the other hour to take his
daily walk and bark at bugs. He loves to sit in
his chair and watch TV, and his picture was
featured in the Tennessean newspaper as their
Pet of the Week, in Sept. 06! He has been
nothing but loving with our toddler, Cooper, and
shows remarkable patience when Cooper tugs on
his tail.
We never thought that we would be able to love
another hound dog after our beloved Jake passed
away, but Baxter has been such a blessing. Thank
you so much to BHRA and to Baxter's foster mom,
Linda Wilson, for bringing him into our lives!
Marc, Katie, and Cooper Skelley

Everyday is just a little more blessed because
Little Nikki is in our life.
Of course, we stumble with a few obstacles
(housetraining), but who cares, I
buy carpet cleaner direct from the Co., and
soon we will rid ourselves of
the wall to wall anyway. Mostly, I have to
thank you so much for letting us
adopt your little sweet angel. She has become
my Mom's favorite dog EVER,
and Mom has loved a lot of dogs to be
sure. However, right now, Nikki is
the medicine Mom really needed... Mom is 79,
cancer survivor and lost Dad in
2001, just shy of 50 year anniversary. When I get a little
more flush in my wallet, I
will not forget you, ever.
(I keep hoping to win the lotto, and if I ever
do, a lot of that will go to
basset rescue everywhere!!!)
God Bless and many thanks
Jackie and the gang , Pumpkin, Jean Paul,
Pierre, Jellybean, Nigel, Colette,
Max (I weally LUV Nikki) and the STAR, Little
Nikki (aka Morgan)

We adopted Owen last October. His story was a sad one. Owen was hit and badly injured by a car. Someone actually drove by him for 2 or 3 consecutive days and assumed him to be dead, until he eventually saw him move! Owen’s entire side was ripped open and had his ears filled with maggots. Owen was then sent to an animal shelter, where BHRA eventually recovered him before he was put down. Owen was then nursed back to health by the folks at BHRA. Since we adopted him, his scars have continued to heal and his energy continues to increase. Owen even walks about 2 miles per day. He has been a great pet and a good friend to our young basset, Maxwell. Owen plays with Maxwell constantly, although sometimes he is very reluctant and just seems to be humoring his friend. We couldn’t ask for a better pet. In fact, Owen even snitches (barks repeatedly) when Maxwell is doing something bad (getting into the trash can)! Oh yeah, I almost forgot that Owen’s distinguishing feature is his “nub,” or what was left of his tail after it was cut off due to his accident. We are happy to have Owen and his champion sleeping ability and want to thank BHRA for finding us such a good pet.

This is Oliver. We adopted him 2 years ago in February after the loss of our Rotweiler, Heidi. We also had a 5 year old basset at the time that was very lonesome after Heidi died. We looked at the web site and fell in love with Oliver. After we inquired about him we found out that he was actually only about 30 miles from where we lived and was being fostered in the home of one of the managers at the restaurant where our daughter worked. (Talk about small worlds).
As you can see from the picture, Oliver has adjusted well. He is our loveable Ollie Bollie. His brother Flash is happy to have a companion. The two of them are quite a pair. They love to play and occasionally get into trouble together. Oliver enjoys sleeping in bed with momma and daddy and brother Flash. He goes for walks but prefers rides on Sunday afternoon. We are so glad to have him and it breaks our hearts to think of him alone wandering the streets. He is such a loving boy. Every afternoon the boys go next door to me maw’s house for a treat. He does love food.
Adopting has been a wonderful experience that I would recommend it to anyone considering it. There are so many dogs out there who need and deserve a loving home.

Morgan (Little Nikki) came into our home and life on April 28, 2007. There are not enough words to say how much we love her, and she has really brought so much joy to us. In 2005 we rescued an 8 month old boy from Tri-State basset rescue, and these two have bonded like no tomorrow. She has given him the puppy life he never had, and the became best friends from day one. We are so grateful to BHRA for letting us adopt Morgan. She is truly a blessing in our life.

Just a follow up on the adoption
of our precious "HAZEL" new name BREA. She has
adjusted so well. Brea is in control of the
house and our 7 year old Bassett "BAXTER" She
doesn't want him to come near her granny or
granddaddy as we refer to ourselves. Brea tries
to get him to play but he just gives her a look
like - I don't think so. She sleeps in the bed
with granny & granddaddy. I took her to the door
to potty this morning ,it was raining. She ran
out & came back fast without pottying. She
finally went to the edge of the porch.
During her bath Saturday , she raised her legs
one at a time to be rinsed off. The pet we lost
to the tainted dog food is the only dog I had
ever seen do this before. Brea has her own
clothes basket of toys that she empties every
time we put them up. She still loves her belly
rubbed. She does not like to see her granny
getting ready for work. Fortunately I get to
drop by during the day for a few minutes. She
loves kisses from granny but hates to see granny
coming towards her with a wash cloth because she
knows granny is going to wash her ears.
Brea loves to eat but she's getting a little
pudgy. She hides her doggie bones all over the
house but Baxter usually finds them.
Brea is one of the sweetest, most precious dogs
that I have ever seen and we are so blessed to
have her as a member of our family. Here is a
picture of Brea and her new best buddy, Baxter
checking out the action outside.

Hi,
I just wanted to update everyone on Marti! She is doing great here! She has come right in and taken over our lives. She loves the children and all their attention. When one of them cries she tackles them and licks them until they stop. She has taken over the bed and sleeps through the night, and then sometimes we have to coax her to get up. She is a great car rider (even better than the children) she visited the beach and her human great grandma in Florida this week. I am sending a picture of her with the children on the beach. She is not eating alot.... We took her to the vet and he gave her a clean bill of health, we switched her to Bil-Jac food and she seems to eat that better. Bil-Jac was one of the few not recalled, she has a craving for table food which we are trying our hardest not to allow!! We had a fence put in while on vacation, she still will not leave our side. Thanks to everyone who took such great care of her before she found us!!

Berrie has been with us for almost 18 months. She is quite a character and makes us laugh every day. She is certainly the queen of the castle (and its' watchdog too.) As you can see from the photo, she is very talented at relaxing.

I adopted Bella (formerly known as Beulah) three years ago today from BHRA...I still remember driving to Mobile to pick her up with my mom and Bear. Janiece and Reba did our home visit in Pensacola:) On the menu tonight, doggie oreo cookies from Three Dog Bakery and a yummy layer cake of chicken hearts and beef (Tammy claims this cannot be called a "cake"!) I make this for every furkid's birthday and they LOVE it:)
