Special Intake Notice Due to the high number of dogs in Rescue
at this time we have regrettably temporarily halted intake of dogs.
Once we are able to successfully adopt some of the dogs we will again
reopen intake.
Any rescue organization's most valuable asset is the
availability of foster homes. PLEASE...can you make a difference?
Without the availability of foster space, we could have to turn away a
hound that really needs us. Won't you please consider opening your
home to a needy hound on a temporary basis? Please see our Foster page
for all of the details!
Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama (BHRA) is
an all volunteer, 501(c)(3), non-profit charity, dedicated solely to
rescuing and finding loving homes for homeless or needy basset hounds
from all over the state of AL (and in some cases, surrounding states).
Our rescues come from shelters, from owners surrendering their hounds,
and unclaimed strays. Every hound we rescue is fully vetted,
spayed or neutered, heartworm treated if they arrive positive, evaluated
and placed in loving foster homes until "forever homes" can be found for
them. The survival of BHRA is due solely to adoption fees (which
often do not even cover the vetting costs) and donations from the
public. All funds received go strictly to the care and vetting of these
precious hounds. We do not take administrative fees. Since
2000, BHRA has taken in and placed over 1,000 hounds in loving homes! To learn more, please click
